CLASSIC DVD
For this review we have chosen a selection from your local video stores’ shelves. From Jean-Pierre Jeunet comes a film about love, war and fate. A Very Long Engagement (2004) is a French film with masterful attention to detail and all the classic hallmarks of its director including wonderful cinematography, hilarious moments and quirky characters brought to life by a brilliant cast of actors.
In 1919 we find Mathilde (Audrey Tautou) presented with the papers to tell her that her childhood sweetheart and fiancé Manech has been killed on the battlefield. Mathilde refuses to believe this and sets out on her own brave journey to find him. She hangs on to hope and her intuition that he is indeed alive and they will be together once again. It is a little long in content, but the beauty of each scene and the search for Manech will keep you intrigued until the end. If you love this film make sure you see some of Jeunet’s others including Amelie and Delicatessen.
